The Course introduces common and detailed aspects for the most common rheumatic diseases. Pathophysiology, advanced clinical and strumental diagnosis, current therapies, are discussed following a mechanicistic model in order to understand their bases and translational links.
Since the actual methods for the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases represent the most advanced products of the medical science, the student through the comprehension of the immunological, biochemical and hormonal bases of the immune-inflammatory reaction, will learn the mechanisms of molecular drugs (and non) in order to optimise their use.
The student will became able to learn and to apply the theoretical and practical contents of the course and he will propose some resolutions of clinical problems at the time of the final examination.
The teaching methods from years and with success include:
1. Frontal lessons, reach of images and cartoons with intercation with students (almost 50% of the total hour-body of lessons)
2. Practical sessions with diagnostic tools (for interested students almost 20% of the total hour-body of lessons)
3. Practical sessions with laboratory tools (for interested students almost 10% of the total hour-body of lessons)
4. Clinical case discussion using cases offered by the students theirself Practical sessions with diagnostic tools (almost 20% of the total hour-body of lessons)
5. Invitation to attend courses, meetings or workshops organized by the School of Rheumatology
Majot topics of the Course include:
1. Neuroendocrine immunology of the rheumatic diseases (NEIRD)
2. Early non-invasive instrumental diiagnosis (done by the rheumatologist himself) including the power doppler ultrasonography analysis of the musculoskeletal system, the videocapillaroscopy, evn th analysis of the synovial fluid and the reading of the autoantibody levels with their specificities. All together these tools allow 80-90% of the early diagnosis for arthritis and autoimmune connective tissue diseases.
3. Clinics and clinimetry of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases such as systemic sclerosis, systemic lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyositis, unifferentiated connective tissue diseases, and more such as spondyloarthritis, microcrystal artritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, soft tissues flogosis and tendiitis, osteoarthritis, and finally rare connective tissue diseases and genomics, all together are matter of lessons and final examination.
