Teaching of practical principles for the understanding of adult heart diseases, cardiac surgery interventions and the principles of perfusion techniques. These topics, along with the developed theoretical knowledge, will contribute to the professional basis of the medical doctors.
The course aims to provide the students with the professional information considered fundamental to perform their future tasks.
Exercises, practices, clinical cases
• Indications for cardiac surgical procedures
• Principles of surgical techniques
• EKG evaluation
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the adult (under simulated condition)
• Request the appropriate first level imaging diagnostic modalities (ultrasound, radiography, TC, RMN), providing relevant clinical information and diagnostic questions
• Laboratory tests evaluation
• Communicate (under real or simulated conditions) with the patient and relatives on diagnosis of serious or disabling pathologies and related treatments
• Proper use of sterile gloves
• Preparation of a sterile field for uncomplex surgical procedures
• Perform a skin suture (under simulated condition)
• Medicate decubitus wounds, external lesions (wounds, ulcers and fistulas) and surgical drains removal

Feedback during the training
Learning verification is done through a final exam to check the real acquisition of the expected learning by the student.
