It can be associated with surgery, chemotherapy and / or hormone therapy to ensure the best control of the disease. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES To know the base of radiotherapy, through the basic concepts of radiobiology and organ radiopathology, clinical indications, expected toxicity and expected clinical outcomes of the most common cancer diseases. LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO) The aims of the course are to - educate students about relationship with patient, to undertand the main radiotherapy techniques and to know the base of clinical radiation oncology - to know the state of art on Nuclear Medicine TEACHING METHODS Lessons with powerpoint slides and educational videos SYLLABUS/CONTENT TSRM Figure in Radiotherapy: The Core European Curriculum Patient path in a radiotherapy structure LINAC - structure (photons, electrons) Immobilization and Repositioning Systems The Conventional and CT simulation The TPS treatment plan (plan implementation, beam modifiers, DVH evaluation) Treatment: First Session, Patient Set-Up Treatment verification systems Radiotherapy Techniques: physical, technical and clinical aspects Modulated Intensity Radiation (IMRT) Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Gating Respiratory Radiosurgery (RCH) Cranial and Extracranial Stereotactic Radiotherapy TSI (Total Skin Irradiation) Brachytherapy and Adrotherapy Tomotherapy and Volumetric Techniques CiberKnife Total Body Irradiation (TBI) Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT) Pediatric Radiotherapy The role of TSRM in the Quality Assurance Program of Physical Physics: Daily Quality Controls The TSRM within Medical Physics in Radiotherapy Radiobiology notes: 5R of radiobiology Ionizing radiation effects on healthy cells and cancer cells Biological bases of radioactivity toxicity - acute and late toxicity Serial and parallel organs and their effects on toxicity Definition of radiopharmaceutical interest rates: GTV, CTV, PTV, ITV, Set up margin Systematic and random error Organs at risk Combined Treatments: Sequential, Synchronous and Alternative Treatments: Rational, Advantages and Disadvantages Therapeutic Index Definition Purpose and timing of radiotherapy treatment Emergencies in radiotherapy Clinical indications in major cancer diseases TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD LILIANA BELGIOIA Ricevimento: By appointment.
