The course has as main objectives: Acquiring knowledge of the causes, behavior and prevention of infectious and degenerative diseases and their health and social impacts. During the course the elements to understand the Italian health organization with particular emphasis to the Health Promotion and Education for the health of populations are given.
At the end of the course the student will have acquired the knowledge necessary for the prevention of degenerative and infectious diseases and health promotion.
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
Knowing the causes, symptoms, epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, diseases of S. pneumoniae, meningococcal disease, hepatitis, AIDS, influenza, a fecal-oral diseases Chain and carriers) and degenerative diseases (cardiovascular diseases and cancer) and be able to educate the public to know the value and practice of preventive measures (disinfection and vaccine prophylaxis).
Knowing how to design a project for health education.

Introduction and history of the Hygiene. The organization of health services. Principles and Strategies of Health Promotion. The health statistics and epidemiology as essential tools for health promotion. Epidemiological measures: description of the number of events, ratios, proportions, rates, indicators, data sources and their quality; the questionnaire. Epidemiological studies: descriptive studies, case-control studies, cohort studies, experimental studies, the association criteria and confounding, screening tests, the mortality studies. Prevention Concepts: Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Epidemiology and prophylaxis (report, isolation, quarantine, disinfectants, vaccine, chemoprophylaxis, passive immunoprophylaxis) of infectious diseases with particular regard to: AIDS; Viral hepatitis; Influence; respiratory virus diseases; Tuberculosis; Meningitis; Measles; Mumps; Rubella; Chickenpox; Pneumococcal and Haemophilus Influentiae infections; Polio; Diphtheria; Tetanus. Hygiene of the trips. Epidemiology and prevention of degenerative diseases, in particular cardiovascular diseases and cancers.
