AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at improving the knowledge of the hydrologic modelling. Particular attention is given to the frequency analysis of extreme events (storm and flood). Furthermore the understanding of hydrological processes provided in the first-level course of Hydrology will be developed. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at improving the knowledge of the hydrologic modelling. Particular attention is given to the frequency analysis of extreme events (storm and flood). Furthermore the understanding of hydrological processes provided in the first-level course of Hydrology will be developed. TEACHING METHODS The lectures are organized in about 50 hours of theory including at least 10 hours of practice in order to deal with applied problems on the main topics of the course. The students will draw up a numerical exercise relating to the statistical analysis of the maximum rainfall depths for assigned duration as well as to the implementation of a simple conceptual rainfall-runoff model for a small catchment. The exercise will be discussed during the oral examination. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The main contents of the course are the following: Review of the principles of hydrology and inferential statistics Rainfall-runoff modelling approaches Flow routing modelling approaches Hydrologic statistics Frequency analysis of extreme events (storm/flood) Regional regression analysis of hydrological extremes RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY PP Slides available on Aulaweb; Chow V.T., Maidment D.R., Mays L.W., Applied hydrology, New York, McGraw-Hill, 1988. Furthermore the students have to discuss/illustrate the results of the exercise relating to the frequency analysis of the extreme events as well as the implementation of a simple conceptual rainfall-runoff model to a small catchment.
