AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course intends to describe the modeling of sound waves in perfect fluids and direct and inverse scattering problems.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Acoustic waves in perfect fluids. Time-harmonic acoustic waves. Radiative solutions to the Helmholtz equation. Direct scattering problems and the Lippmann-Schwinger equation.

The electromagnetic scattering problem: differential and integral approaches. Born approximation and physical optics approximation. Ill-posedness of the inverse problem. Qualitative and quantitative methods for the approximate solution of the inverse problem.
