The course is a 12-credits-course consisting of
- a theoretical module of 30 hours (held in the 2nd semester) in which basic facts of German phonology, morphology and syntax are presented and illustrated;
- an applied module of 200 hours dedicated to the development of oral and written competence in the German language.
The goal of the theoretical module is to stimulate student reflection on the phonological, morphological and syntactic organization of the German language.
At the end of the course students will be able to
- identify the phonological, morphological and syntactic categories and rules;
- analyze the structure of words, phrases ,simple and complex sentences.
The goal of the applied module is the attainment of instrumental competence of German corresponding to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The theoretical module will be in form of frontal lessons.
The applied module will be in form of practical lessons.
Topics covered in the theoretical module are as follows:
- the phonetic basis of phonology,
- the units and rules of phonology,
- the units and rules of inflectional and derivational morphology,
- the units of syntax, the simple sentence structure, the complex sentence structure.
It is also part of the program the reading a scientific article on a topic of German linguistics that will be distributed during the course.
The lectures are held partly in Italian, partly in German.

GERMAN LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION I
Theoretical module: written or oral exam.
Applied module: written and oral exam.
Theoretical module
Students can choose between:
a) a written examination lasting 60 minutes (consisting of 16 multiple choice questions / completion tasks), which will be held in the 1st available date of the summer and the autumn session;
b) an oral examination lasting 20 minutes (consisting in the presentation of a topic selected by the student, and in two questions selected by the examiner) to be held in the 2nd available date of the summer and the autumn session.
In the February session there is only an oral exam.
The total exam consisting in theory class and language exercises is equivalent to 12 credit points (CFU).
The exam is obligatory for students in the first year of the course of studies in Theories and techniques of language mediation.
Language level A2 in German language is required for participation.
Lessons will be held in Italian and German language.
The program of the course is valid until February 2017 in accordance to the departmental regulation.
