The course wishes to elaborate on fundamental events of the history of the twentieth century and give students the basic instruments to discover the methods and sources of historical work. Particular care will be given to the historical theories and methods of historical research of the contemporary era.
By way of a reflection on the scientific status of the subject in its relationship with other historical and social disciplines, the course aims to foster the acquisition of critical awareness of the analytical categories of historical knowledge.
To help the acquisition of the methods and sources of contemporary history, examples of researches will be shown that highlight the complexity and variety of the societies and cultures of the contemporary era.

A deeper understanding of the most significative events of the nineteenth century in a transnational perspective. Metodological and historical research examples through the analysis of texts in theory and history of storiography.

METHODOLOGY AND THEORY OF THE HISTORY
Oral interview.
Written exam for attendees after the end of the course. The written exam will be scheduled between the end of the classes and the date of the first oral exam. Attendees taking the written exam will have the opportunity to supplement its outcome by means of an oral interview during the scheduled exam sessions.
Written exam after the end of the course for students attending classes.
Questions will aim at assessing the knowledge and understanding of the historical developments, the most important phenomena and the most relevant events.
