OVERVIEW

The course will provide both the knowledge of the main issues and problems for the interpretation and analysis of socio - spatial dynamics both basic skills to understand the structuring of socio - spatial systems ( relationship between society and space , the latter being as a social product )

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide the methodologies and the theoretical - conceptual apparatus required for a spatial interpretation of social and territorial dynamics of the recent phenomena, focusing on the changes exerted by social actors in the national and international framework.

Specific objectives are:

a) to acquire adequate knowledge and understanding related to the effective analysis of space as social product tools.

b ) create conditions for students to apply their knowledge and understanding and solving problems in various application contexts referring to case studies on issues of migrants, refugees, conflict.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures with projection of slides and films with analysis of charts , tables , thematic maps and exercises .

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The first module will analyze the main indicators geo - social - economic and cultural, and will be further discussed those relating to the following themes: development and human development, poverty, gender inequality, migration and integration. Specifically they will consider the OECD indicators , UNDP , World Bank, Transparency International, EU, World Economic Forum. The second module will be presented cases of differences in the roles and the use of space by men and women , as well as inequalities . In particular will be the subject of reflection problems related to the condition of women in sub - Saharan Africa with regard to health , education, employment and politics. the main problems are then analyzed regarding migration (female) and their implications.

For attending students : written test

For not attending : oral test

For attending students : written test ( only for students who have attended 70 % of classes ) .The test A will be at the end of lessons (more information will be provided by the teacher in the first lessons of the course )

For non-attending students : oral exam .

Oral examination for students not attending : The oral exam includes the discussion , including through the use of graphs, charts and tables , proposed during the course or present on the texts in the program , useful to both the understanding of space as a social product is being studied the dynamics of inclusion and exclusion of communities in the territories .
