AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to examine and discuss the history of the Ligurians and the events of the region they inhabited from the early Iron Age until late antiquity.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

- understand the value of the different types of sources for the study of the Ligurian world and distinguish between legendary traditions and historically relevant data

- be able to describe the main features of Ligurian civilisation and its evolution from the Iron Age to the Roman conquest

- acquire a good knowledge of the most important phases of the Roman-Ligurian wars and of the main events that affected Liguria in the late Republican and Imperial age

TEACHING METHODS

Traditional lectures.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

History of pre-Roman Liguria; the Roman conquest; the Romanisation process; Liguria in the Roman Empire.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Lecture notes (2017-2018) will be made available to students at the DIRAAS - Sezione di Storia Antica (Via Balbi 4, 1st floor) starting from April 2018. The study of the following papers is also required for those who cannot attend lessons (the text of the papers will be available to students at the same location):

Oral exam.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam focuses on the program stated at the beginning of the course. During the oral exam, the exam board, chaired by the teacher, in order to verify the learning outcomes, evaluates the knowledge acquired by the student, the accuracy of his/her answers and his/her ability to make connections between the various topics.
