The course is divided into an institutional part which includes the individual study of medieval and humanist Latin literature; and a monographic part which consists of lectures on a specific disciplinary topic.
Students will get a broad framework of medieval Latin literature from the 6th to the 13th centuries with particular attention to the main literary genres and authors as well as the most important texts. There will be further analysis in the field of medieval Latin philology and late ancient literature. Students will also get a broad framework of Latin literature from the 14th and 15th centuries with particular attention to the idea of continuity and discontinuity with respect to medieval culture through the analysis of the most important authors and texts.
Further analysis in the field of philology and ecdoctics of humanist texts.
The course aims to give students in-depth competencies vis-à-vis the main authors and literary genres of Latin literature from the 6th to the 15th centuries as well as knowledge about the relevant methodological tools of philology and Medieval Latin and humanist ecdoctics.
Lectures with reading and commenting of passages of "Mathematicus" and relative critical literature.

- “Mathematicus" by Bernardo Silvestre: “elegiac” tragedy from the 12th century
c) - An essay chosen from those indicated during the course.
