OVERVIEW

The course deals with some of the most important issues in the recent economic policy debate: the implications of ageing and of technological innovation.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course mainly deals with economic policy issues associated with ageing innovation policy, monetary policy and behavioural policy.

TEACHING METHODS

Tradition lecture and group presentations.

1) voting theory

2) economic implications of ageing

  • sustainability and distributive effects of pay-as-you-go and funded pension schemes
  • social policies (long term-care and against poverty)
  • gender policies
  • financial tools supporting old age consumption

3) innovation and productivity

  • productivity definitions and measures
  • recent productivity dynamics and their determinants
  • technological innovation and productivity
  • the implications of the digitalization of the economy
  • economic policy in the digital era

4) introduction to macro-dynamics

5) A few models on monetary policy theory
