OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide students with the basic tools and concepts for a sociological interpretation of the educational processes, inside and outside school context, starting from some key topics of the sociology of education. In particular the course will focus on different agents of socialization: the role of the family in the socialization process, group of peer and immigrant second generations in different education context

Providing introductory knowledge of the discipline, starting from some of those thematic fields that are most important in relation to educator's role

The goal is to provide the students with the basic tools and knowledges for a sociological understanding of the educational processes (inside and outside school sistem), developing the critical mind and the ability to analyze the social context  beyond prejudices and stereotypes

TEACHING METHODS

 The lessons will be provided in modules, focusing each the main course’s themes; experts will be invited to take part to each module.

 During the lessons, the students will work on the course materials uploaded on aulaweb by the teacher and in working groups. Videos and images produced by the visual sociology laboratory (DISFOR)  will be exploited as well

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Different macro -argumetns will be developed: The sociological study of educational processes; socialization and identity; theories of childhood; inequalities in education processes;  changes about family in the  XIX, XX century;  migration processes and education system

ASSESSMENT METHODS

For students attending  to the lessons:

Assessment of students’ learning will be ongoing throughout the semester, one written test sessions in the middle course and a final written test,both whit open-ended questions. 

If  a student don't reach the 18/30, he must repeat the examination, with oral interview
