AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide some basic concepts related to the theories and methods of sociology aimed at clarifying the main social dynamics in the living environment, according to specific space-time variables, with particular attention to the theoretical and empirical connections with the Sociology of communication, in order to enable students to understand the main elements of socialization and their influence on individual and group behaviour, the most important evolutionary lines of social change and the relationship between society, culture and communication. Part of the course will be devoted to the description of the strategies and techniques of the social research methodology applied to the study of the environment and the territory. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES To illustrate the concepts used by sociology (culture and society, groups, organizations, family, deviance, inequality, education, mobility, migration, economy, work, power), analysis of globalization and its influence on everyday life. In particular, the illustration of these concepts will be linked to their relationship with the environment and the territory (with specific reference to the urban context, the citizens and the various social groups in it), paying attention to the media and communication aspects. TEACHING METHODS Front lectures in attendance, with possibility of participation in thematic seminars on the topics discussed, aulaweb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course provides the basics of sociology, focusing in particular on the following topics: The object of sociology and the various sociological paradigms. The formation of modern society and the underlying transformation of capitalism. The plot of the social fabric and its relationship with environment and territory: (social relations, groups, norms, values, power and conflict, collective behaviours). Culture, identity, socialization. Language and communication, the media and the new information and communication technologies. The forms of deviance and crime (their perception and media representation). Stratification, social classes and social mobility. Gender and age differences. Breeds, ethnicities and nations. Family and marriage. Education and education. Economy and Society. Work, production and consumption. Politics and administration. Population and social organization in space and territory. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Specific materials in English for foreign students will be provided by the professor. Foreign students must contact the professor at the beginning of the course. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam will be realized in written mode (5 open questions, 4 in the manual and 1 in the reading book), with possible oral integration if requested by the professor or the student for further assessment of the preparation.
