LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide students with an in-depth understanding of the techniques used to grow and manipulate "in vitro" cells and the use of different types of cell culture.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Cells in vitro. Primary culture, cell lines. Basic techniques of cell culture in vitro. Advantages and disadvantages of cell cultures. The 3 Rs. Needed equipment and sterilization methods. Composition of different media. Tripsinisation and propagation of crops. Freezing and thawing. Cellular adhesion. Growth on specific substrates (polyglycine, polyornitine, collagen). Growth kinetics. Cellular count. Methods for evaluating cell proliferation, survival and toxicity. Vitality Test. Some applications: wound healing 

The Laboratory credit will be devoted to the practical application of what explained during the theoretical lessons (setting up a culture, cell count, subculturing, wound healing)
