AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Fundamental elements of private international law; excercise of sovereignty and coordination of sovereign prerogatives in cross-border matters, with particualr attention the the European context; recognition and enforcement of foreign decisions and application of foreign law. Public international law: institutional elements. Subjects of international law; sources of international law, and their relations between each other and with domestic rules; international wrongdoings. Substantive international law: particualr attention will be devoted to immunities from jurisdiction, protection of fundamental rights, use of force and settlement of international disputes. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lectures. Materials will be available on aulaweb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course is divided in three parts: the first is dedicated to conflict of law rules and to rules concerning the application in Italy of foreign laws. The course will also focus on the members of the international community, on sources of international law and on the coordination of international rules, also with domestic laws, as well as on the rules concerning international wrongdoinds, immunities, use of force, and settlement of international disputes. More in detail: Part 1: Private international law: fundamental elements; conflict of laws; connection critieria and their coordination; renvoi; application of foreign law; limits to foreign laws; overriding mandatory provisions and public policy. Part 2: Public international law: institutions; subjects of international law; sources of international law; coordination of sources of international law and transposition within the domestic legal system. Part 3: Substantive international law: immunities; use of forse; international wrongdoins; State responsibility; settlement of international disputes.
