CODE 95250 ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 DESIGN DEL PRODOTTO E DELLA NAUTICA 9274 (L-4) - SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/11 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course aims to provide the basic knowledge necessary for the understanding of the main physical phenomena interesting the yacht design, in particular approaching the study of the energy systems thermodynamics and the heat transfer. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is the training of a person able to analyze and solve simple problems in different fields of applied physics (applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, acoustics and lighting) while helping to acquire a proper scientific-technical language. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is the training of a person able to solve simple math problems of thermodynamics and heat transfer, while helping to acquire a proper scientific-technical language, as an essential tool either to understand technical documentation or to talk with several actors in the designing and manufacturing processes of the pleasure boats. Preliminary and essential to the study of physical phenomena is the familiarity with the physical dimensions of the mechanics and the relative units of measurement: the same are recalled in fact in the introductory part of the course. The course then addresses the main topics of technical thermodynamics, through the analysis of thermodynamic systems and energy exchanges that characterize them. Following is the study of the main mechanisms of heat exchange, conduction, convection and thermal radiation. With the aim of favoring an adequate critical knowledge of the phenomena, numerical exercises are also provided for the resolution of simple problems. PREREQUISITES The following basic mathematical knowledge is necessary to effectively address the teaching content. Calculation of areas and volumes of simple geometries. Functions: line, module, parabola, hyperbola, logarithm, exponential, trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, tangent and related inverse functions). Resolution of equations and of first and second degree, of equations with logarithms and trigonometric functions. Simple inequations. Meaning of limit. Differential calculus of a real variable: geometric interpretation of the concept of derivative and integral, calculation of derivatives and primitives of simple functions. Ordinary differential equations to the separable variables of the first and second order. In order to face the resolution of simple numerical problems, it is also necessary to have an adequate familiarity in the use of a scientific calculator. TEACHING METHODS Teaching is carried out by alternating theoretical lessons with practical/numerical exercises. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The main topics discussed are the following. GENERAL PHYSICS RECALLS: mechanics, static of fluids, notes of electricity. TECHNICAL THERMODYNAMICS: thermodynamic systems, temperature, heat, mechanical work, first principle of thermodynamics for closed and open systems, notes on the second principle of thermodynamics, thermodynamic properties of pure substances, dynamics of fluids. HEAT TRANSFER: conduction, convection, thermal radiation, combined heat transfer mechanisms. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Bergero S., Chiari A., Appunti di termodinamica, Aracne editrice, 2007.
