OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide an adequate knowledge of state forms in their historical evolution and the forms of government of the Western democratic state.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is aimed at providing an appropriate knowledge of the forms of state in their historical evolution, with emphasis on the Western democratic state and to the socialist system. The course will also provide adequate knowledge of the forms of government in the Western democratic state, with particular regard to the parliamentary system of government, to the presidential and semi-presidential one.

TEACHING METHODS

The classes will be conducted by the teacher. At the request of the students will be able to deal in a seminar some topical issues concerning the teaching.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Summary 

The first part of the lectures will deal with the characters of the different constitutional systems, paying special attention to the  democratic regime. 

In relation to this model, the second part of the lectures will develop the topics of the systems of government, through an analysis of both structure and dynamics of some among the most important constitutional experiences.

Furthermore, topics of close relevance to the countries studied and issues related to the European integration process will be addressed.

In addition to the lecture notes, the frequency of which is considered essential, it is suggested the study of the following volumes:

- M.Volpi, Libertà e autorità. La classificazione delle forme di Stato e delle forme di governo, Giappichelli, Torino, 6ª ed., 2016. 

- Bardusco, Furlan, Iacometti, Martinelli, Vigevani, Viviani Schlein, Costituzioni comparate, Giappichelli, Torino,  3ª ed. agg., 2015.

Students who do not ensure the minimum frequency, will be required to supplement their training with the seguentie volume:
- A. Giovannelli (a cura di), Aspetti della governoance economica nell’UE e in alcuni Stati dell’Unione, Torino, Giappichelli, 2014.

During the year, it will be reported alternative volumes for foreign students and in-depth texts, for those who are particularly interested in the course.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

 

The exam will be oral. They will discuss four topics pertaining to the course.

The examination board is appointed by the Department Council and chaired by the professor in charge of the course.

For foreign students who apply for it you will be able to take the exam in written form in English or French.
