The course aims at providing students with basic knowledge of the molecular and cellular mechanisms supporting the processes of tissue repair and regeneration. During the course main clinical application of Tissue engineering will be illustrated.
This class will offer a comprehensive view on the current state-of-the-art of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering to the undergraduate students, asking them to examine in depth specific topics in order to develop higher criticism skills.
Aims of this course are:
Knowledge of the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing tissue repair and regeneration;
Knowledge of the stem cell biology;
Knowledge of the relevant clinical applications.
The course includes classroom teaching on topics of Tissue Engineering.
The students will be requested to choose a topic among those suggested by the teachers and to elaborate a critical presentation.
Introduction and Historical Background of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering.
Regenerative Medicine for the Epithelium and Connective Tissue.
Regenerative Mecine for the Skeletal and Cardiac Muscle.
Selection of 3 topics to be further analysed and discussed by students in their essay.
One-to-one meeting to check out the essay progression.

REGENERATIVE MEDICINE AND TISSUE ENGINEERING
The students will be requested to produce a critical elaboration on the chosen topic and present it in a public session.
Teachers will verify the knowledge level reached by the student considering the acquisition of the learning outcomes, his/her ability and competence in presenting the chosen topic and his/her capacity to make connections with related scientific fields.
