OVERVIEW

The course, scheduled in the second half of the academic year, aims at introducing students to the principles of coastal structures planning and design with a focus on breakwaters and quaywalls

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning outcomes of the course are the capability of the student to plan and design any kind of breakwater for harbour protection and to set-up a preliminary design of different types of quaywalls

1. Ability to design breakwaters for harbour protection
2. Preliminary design knowledge for the construction of harbour quaywalls
3. Preliminary planning capabilities of areas for naval repairs, marinas and and fishing harbours

Classes will be given with frontal teaching with the help of slides

Probabilistic design for coastal structures

Shipyards

Forces on piles and pipelines due to waves
