TEACHING METHODS

The module consists of lessons and eventual seminars

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The module will focus on the following contents, applying the comparative method:

- Electoral Systems, Political Parties, Institutional Framework and Forms of government

- Comparative Study of Electoral Systems and their consequences (Voting Methods and Types; e-Vote System; District Magnitude; Threshold; Majority Bonus; First Past The Post; Two-Round system; Proportional Representation; Mixed Systems…)

- Electoral Justice and Constitutional Adjudication

- State and sovereignty. Forms of State

- Federalism and regionalism

- Trends in decentralization and multilevel governance

- Constitutional aspect of secession: a comparative approach

Reading materials and learning resources will be provided at the beginning of the module and made available on AulaWeb.

Students who do not attend two thirds of the lectures must study one of the following books:

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The oral exam will focus on the program of the module and will take place before a commission composed by professors of the course.

Students must register on line for the exam by the deadline. 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Final assessment of the oral exam aims at testing the knowledge of the issues covered by the course, the appropriate use of the technical and legal language, as well as the ability to critical analyse and revise the subjects which are being studied.
