OVERVIEW

The course offers the concepts and the theoretical abilities that help to evaluate clinical situations in the paediatric emergency field.

During the course the students will get to know the nursing health strategies to use with the children both for their health and the relationship with them and their families in order to intervene in the right way.

To be acquainted with the clinical emergency situations, applying the necessary first aid interventions.

To be acquainted and be able to use the basic knowledge given during the course.

To be acquainted and have the specific abilities to face all the situations that determine vital criticism and instability from the moment the event happens to the stabilization, from the initial recovery to the death. 

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal classes, small work groups, hands on and guided debates

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Nursing actions during the paediatric heart and respiratory arrest. A.B.G.            

Respiratory assistance

Use of electro-medical equipment

Respiratory failure: assist the patient on non-invasive or assisted ventilation

Nursing actions in emergency with paediatric patient with:

head trauma

polytrauma

febrile convulsions

burn

drowning

stroke

shock

need of blood transfusion

  • Role of the Paediatric Nurse in the management of the care during the anesthaesia
  • Role of the Paediatric Nurse in the management of the care during traditional minimally invasive Surgery

Written and oral

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will verify if the student:

  • Has the intellectual knowledge and a grasp of the issues
  • Logic elaborative capacity
  • Communication (knowledge of scientific terms, clearness, fluency)
  • Is able to apply the knowhow learnt during a simple case
  • Can describe the nurse’s care towards the children and their families in an emergency situation.
