AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Aim of the course is to provide the student with the elements and the language of continuum mechanics applied to problems of solids and fluid mechanics

- Kinematics of fluids

- The equations of motion

- Constitutive equation for Newtonian fluids

- The Navier-Stokes equations

- Buckingham's theorem and dimensionless form of the equations of fluid motion

- Unidirectional flows

- Low Reynolds number flows

- Large Reynolds number flows

- Introduction to turbulent flows
