AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide the students with the methodological and cultural basis for understanding the evolution of the tourist phenomenon from the economic and social point of view, located in the wider dynamics of European economic development from the seventeenth century to today.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lectures, occasional seminars on specific cases studies.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The most relevant topics will be:

  • European economy in the preindustrial era;
  • The start of modern industry in England and the development patterns of the Second Comers;
  • The main features of the world economy in the 20th century;
  • An economic history analysis of tourism;
  • From Grand Tour to modern tourism;
  • The evolution of tourism supply;
  • The Italian case: regional patterns and models;
  • The case of the Liguria Region.
