The course explores a variety of different themes within sociology of deviance and aims to encourage students to move beyond a mere theoretical approach to deviance and control in order to comprehend the practices of social policy and the administration of deviance.

Students must have passed the General Sociology exam.
Combination of traditional lectures (approx.20 hours), tutorials and classroom discussions on case studies (approx. 16 hours).
The first part of the course will analyse the main theories on deviance and social control and develop a critical evaluation of academic ideas as translated into the real-world environment.
The second part of the course will concentrate on structure and working practices on deviance and control, focussing specifically on the migrant and homeless people cases.
Student will be encouraged to work together on group projects and to develop skills in critical reading and analysis on deviance and social control practices through classroom discussions of case studies.

SOCIOLOGY OF DEVIANCE
Attending Students. After the lectures, a written exercise on the topics covered in the course will be carried out, which will also include an independent elaboration of the proposed texts.
The course assessment will be made up of tutorials and classroom discussions of assignments presented by working groups of students
