The course deals, using an interdisciplinary analysis, the main ethical issues related to social justice and its possibilities of realization, relating theoretical reflection and policy. Students will develop their ethical competence in general and acquire knowledge aimed at developing planning and management skills and competences
The course aims to provide students, through an interdisciplinary approach, a general understanding of the ethical issues inherent in the relationship social justice, inequality, development and between social justice, merit, individual responsibility, social security.
At the end of the course, the student will be able to: 1. Identify and describe the main ethical theories concerning social justice; 2. Understand the fundamental problems posed by the relationship between social justice, inequality and social insecurity, also from a global perspective, in order to orientate itself with sufficient knowledge of the cause between the different theories of social justice; 3. Apply the theories to the study of ethically relevant cases, to develop ethical competence; 4. To analyze moral questions concerning social justice in order to acquire the lexicon and the argumentative methods typical of the various theories; 5. Critically evaluate the possible implications, in terms of policy, of the different approaches to the issue of social justice, to identify the effective possibilities of application of theories to social contexts; 6. To planning ethically sustainable interventions in the social security field, to favor the "professionalization" of the teaching.
1. Lectures, aimed at providing the conceptual tools, words and key expressions of the sectoral language of the discipline
2. Interactive lessons based on questions and request for further study of students. Within this mode there is also a peer to peer lesson
3. Group work dedicated, in particular, to the planning of social interventions
The lessons will be supported with the use of slides, videos, testimonials that will be published in aulaweb
The program is divided into three parts. The first, introductory to the discipline, concerns the definition of ethics; the presentation of the main moral philosophical orientations through the analysis of some key words such as deontology, teleology, eudemonism, rationalism, autonomy, heteronomy, formalism, substantialism; the relationship ethics – applied ethics; the definition of the proper domain of social ethics and public ethics. The second part, focuses on social justice and on what prospects of realization are possible. The fundamental topics under discussion are: social justice and inequality; just and unjust inequalities; the relationship between social justice, inequality, development, individual responsibility; the extension of global justice issues. The third part, is devoted to the study of the relationship between safety and social insecurity as an incident factor on equitable policies and policies related to social justice; to the presentation of methodologies and methods for the planning of ethically sustainable interventions in the field of social security
