OVERVIEW

The course examines the history of educational institutions by presenting their identities and scientific paradigms.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Main objectives of the course consist in understanding and acquiring knowledge about history of educational institutions, with a particular attention to the meanings assumed by the idea of "educating" man within the history of the Occident.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquisition of appropriate knowledge in relation to the scientific foundations of the history of educational institutions is aimed at understanding and interpreting, in a historical perspective, problems and changes that invest both the concept of education as well as the identifying characteristics of contemporary educational institutions, in their history.

TEACHING METHODS

Lessons are conducted in the presence of the teacher and have mainly character of lectures. Within the course, group activities and seminars can be provided.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course program will mainly consist in the following contents: the foundational categories and study objects of the history of educational institutions; macro- and micro-dimensions of the educational system and its institutions; methodological paradigms and cognitive foundations of historiographic research into history of educational institutions; categories of self-formation, education and instruction within the history of educational institutions; the scientific-cognitive connection between history of educational institutions, history of pedagogy and pedagogy of history. Pedagogies and cultures of German Neo-humanism, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam is designed to probe the knowledge gained by the student and his critical processing capabilities of the learned contents. In order to this, the exam, lasting 60 minutes, is organized into a small number of open questions.
During the course of the examination, students can consult books in the program.
Students have to attend the exam with the program of the current academic year in, even if they are enrolled in previous academic years.
In the case of insufficient results, students will have to attend the exam again in the same manner.

Examination procedures are the same also for non-attending students.

It is reported that, also in the academic year 2018-2019, activities of the "Seminario di Pedagogia Generale", organized by the three Chairs of the General Pedagogy into the Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione, will continue to be done. For more than ten years old, it usually takes place every last Thursday of the month – except for periods of academic holidays –.
