The course is a good match with EU Financial Markets Law and it is a starting point to approach the advanced course, thought in English, on European Union Financial and Insurance Markets. Together these courses establish up the Jean Monnet Chair on the EU Financial and Insurance Markets Regulation, assigned to professor Michele Siri to develop teaching and research activities on European legislation applicable to financial and insurance services. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES This course introduces to the general issues of insurance law. It is divided into two parts. The first one provides the legal and institutional framework on the insurance and focuses its attention on the rationale of public regulation of the insurance activity. The second part is designed to provide an essential understanding of the legal concepts of the insurance contract law and focuses on the main classes of insurance policies. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES While particular emphasis will be placed on the role of the EU in the setting up of the legal framework for the insurance sector, the lectures will also cover the role of the national legislation with particular focus on the insured protection. PREREQUISITES Knowledge of the commercial law is required. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of 36 hours of lectures given by the course holder. It is based on the European Union insurance directives and delegated regulations. Moreover some real cases decided by the the Court of Justice of the European Union will be presented and students will be required to actively participate to the discussion. Teaching materials will be made available on the University of Genoa E-learning Platform: AulaWeb. Classroom lessons during the first semester. Language: Italian. Insured protection and the product oversight governance 6. European directive on Winding-up procedure for insurance companies 7. European review of insurance guarantee schemes 8. EU Motor insurance directive 9. EU rules governing the activities and supervision of institutions for occupational retirement provision 10.
