    OVERVIEW

    Physiological basis of rehabilitation and neuro-rehabilitation principles.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Acquiring knowledge of the physiological bases of rehabilitation.
    Rehabilitation of the main neurological diseases, with particular reference to the treatment of clinical conditions producing disorders of motor function

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    Physiological bases of rehabilitation: plasticity mechanisms and neuromuscular facilitation techniques. Elements of physiology and pathophysiology of motor control. Clinical exploration of the motor control: transcranial magnetic stimulation and assessment of spinal reflexes.
    Upper motor neuron syndrome and lower motor neuron syndrome. Integrated treatment of the positive phenomena of the upper motor neuron syndrome: spasticity, spastic dystonia and spastic co-contraction. Rehabilitation of the patient with stroke. Rehabilitation of the patient with Parkinson's disease. Rehabilitation of the patient with aphasia and unilateral neglect. No invasive brain stimulation techniques (NIBS) and their application in rehabilitation.
