The course of Historical Linguistics analyzes the concept of Proto-Indo-European and linguistic reconstruction.
The course aims at acquainting the student with reconstruction and critical analysis of textes written in ancient Indo-European Languages.
The student will be able to reconstruct roots, morphemes, suffixes and phrases in Proto-Indo-European.
A good knowledge of Greek and Latin. The textes will be read in the original languages.
Textes are read and discussed in the class. Students are incouraged to partecipated, translate and comment them.
The chariot in ancient India and Greece: comparing the Phaidros by Platon with Parmenides and the Katha Upanisad.

HISTORICAL LINGUISTICS
The exam will be oral. The student is requested to know text, translation and glottological comments which has been explained in the classes and to show a good knoledge of the books by Campanile and Durante.
The exam will be scored 15/30 (class work) plus 15/30 (individual work).
Students are requested to meet the teacher at leas once before the exam.
