OVERVIEW

The Visual Communication Laboratory, through the integration of the modules of “Videografica”, “Contemporary Visual Language” and “Corporate Identity”, develops theoretical-cultural and technical-methodological insights on the communication processes for the product and the event.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Laboratory is formed by the modules: Corporate identity, Videografica and Contemporary visual languages.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main training objectives of the Laboratory consist of providing students with the knowledge to

achieve adequate theoretical-critical, technical-methodological and cultural maturity regarding the

procedures and languages of visual communication.

In particular, the Videografica module is intended to provide the principal technical and critical information to address project-related questions related to video and, more generally, to the audiovisual product, starting with the representation of the initial idea and its development, up to the moment of resumption and final compositional phase.

The Contemporary Visual Language module is designed to provide theoretical-critical and cultural knowledge inherent in some of the major contemporary experimentations in art and representation.

The Corporate Identity module intends to provide the core concepts on the concept of coordinated identity, from which it comes the coordinated image, through the analysis of the project tools (consolidated and innovative) and the methodological-critical exemplifications.

TEACHING METHODS

The didactic modules are developed in parallel throughout the semester so as to integrate the different theoretical-methodological contributions, especially in reference to the design applications. Also, this way, students will be traine to plan and control multiple project levels in relation to a general communication strategy.

The didactic modules develop a “mixed didactics “ -frontal and applicative- with the aim, on the one hand, of providing theoretical and preliminary theoretical knowledge in relation to the multiple themes of visual communication, on the other hand, to provide for their immediate application feedback So as to train the student in intellectual learning and the planning control of Communication procedures.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Within the Laboratory, Videografica Teaching is divided into two complementary thematic sections: one topic intends to highlight some of the main cultural references of the discipline; the other theme is oriented to develop some of the most advanced and innovative technical-methodological procedures For the realization of audio-visual video.

These two thematic phases will also be alternated with each other with the primary goal to realize project exercises where the acquired operating skills are foremost functional to express an intellectual and cultural action, a result of a consolidated research process and of an experimentation upon visual languages.

The theoretical and technical topics of the course are mainly related to the following topics: dynamic image story, directors’s lexicon bases, methods for analyzing audiovisual texts, basic elements of editing and audiovisual language, image acquisition systems, Animation techniques, editing and compositing basics.

“Contemporary Visual Language” teaching develops theoretical topics related to contemporary expression, with reference to visual and artistic culture, digital technologies and the web.

The Corporate Identity teaching mainly develops issues related to the history and the theoretical and methodological foundations of the identity project.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam consists of the presentation of projects  developed during the Laboratory.

The possible adoption of other evaluation forms will be announced at the beginning of the lessons and appropriately described in terms of time and mode.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The verification of the acquired knowledge is done through the evaluation of the works (analysis and project) and their presentation.

In particular, it is verified: the level of technical-linguistic competence referred to the analysis of existing products, the design, development and communication of the project; The methodological rigor and the theoretical-cultural references expressed in the project and described in the oral presentation.
