OVERVIEW

Respiratory and cardiovascular diseases are often strictly associated and inter-dependent. The general knowledge of respiratory pathophysioloy is essential to correctly interpret signs, symptoms and instrumental evaluations in cardiovascular diseases.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Main objectives are: 1) to know the functions of the respiratory system, including structure, ventilation and gas exchange, plus the measurement techniques of these functions. This in the specific framework of cardiovascular diseases. 2) to aquire the essential skill for the interpretation of clinical and instrumental assessments.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

At the end of the course, the student should be able to correctly describe the respiratory function (ventilation, perfusion, gases. Imaging, measurement techniques) and their role in respiratory diseases associated or related to cardiovascular diseases.
