The course deals with actors, processes and dynamics of social and political change in contemporary societies. The goal is to analyze the homogeneous and heterogeneous characters between different geoghraphical and cultural areas.
The course is aimed at providing students with: the specific knowledge through which the sociological approach defines and analyses the social innovation and considers it as a phenomenon related with the political change of contemporary societies; the ability to understand the most relevant contemporary transformations in the reference field in relation to the ongoing social change; the ability to apply knowledge and understanding skills to other specific contexts or case-studies aimed at critical and autonomous analysis.
Combination of traditional lectures (approx. 30 hours) and classroom discussion of the project selected by each student (approx. 6 hours).
Starting from modernization’s theories the course deals with actors, processes and dynamics of political change in various geographical areas (Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Asia). The goal is to analyse the relations between political change and social change processes by a comparative approach. Special attention is given to the transformation of this relationship by considering the social change of contemporary societies.
