OVERVIEW

The course deals with the main sociological theories of globalization and with its history, focusing also on migration as an important component of globalization processes.

 

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Globalization processes are developing at different levels and in different institutional frames, creating new forms of interconnection and interdependence in the economic as well as in the political and cultural spheres. In a first part, the course deals with the main sociological theories of globalization and with its history. In a second part, it focuses on migration as an important component of globalization, paying specific attention to the main theories of migration and to the transformations of societies that these processes have contributed to cause.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is set to provide the students with sociological tools useful to study and understand globalization processes in their economic, political and cultural aspects.

Students will deal with the main sociological theories of globalization and with its history. They will aIso study migration as an important component of globalization, paying specific attention to the main theories of migration.

Classes are held before the students.

Globalization processes have economic, political and cultural aspects. They are developing at different levels and in different institutional frames,  and are creating new forms of interconnection and interdependence.

In a first part, the course deals with the main sociological theories of globalization and with its history. In a second part, it focuses on migration as an important component of globalization, paying specific attention to the main theories of migration and to the transformations of societies that these processes have contributed to cause.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Exams are oral, after a written test, all in the same day.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Exams are held by the Professor, jointly with other colleagues in sociological disciplines.

In the written test, the students will cope with 30 multiple answer questions on the main topics of the programme, in 45 minutes. Those who get at least 18 / 30 in the written test will gain access to the (mandatory) oral part. The exam will end with one mark only.
