OVERVIEW

The course concerns the 3-dimensional measure of the territory, exploiting geodetic and topographic methods, according to classical and modern (GPS) approaches, with the purpose of its quantitative representation through the (local and global)  positioning of its points.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To provide the students with the necessary notions and concepts to make them able to correctly understand and interpret basic applied geodetic and topographic results and products. That purpose is aimed at also by exploiting the interdisciplinary character of Geodesy, which rests on such sciences as Mathematics, Physics and provides the necessary basis for field Surveying

TEACHING METHODS

Front lessons with the aid of projected transparencies.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Fundamentals of horizontal/vertical geodetic networks. Fundamentals of theodolites, levels, leveling rods, EDM apparatuses. Total stations. Reduction of the observations to the ellipsoid. Station eccentricity, target eccentricity, leveling, intersection and resection, traversing (outlines). Static GPS observations and outlines on kinematic GPS observations. GPS positioning to delineate coastal features. Tidal datums and charted shorelines. Outlines on the least squares geodetic adjustment of indirect observations.

Class-room and field exercises with instruments used in field surveying.
