AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to deepen the knowledge of Latin Literature from late antiquity to the fifteenth century, to address the analysis of historical and theatrical texts and humanities, as well as illustrate the methods of transmission of texts and the tools of philological methodologies of the discipline. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to provide students with an in-depth study, with specific readings, of the historiographical genre and to present the cultural and literary development of the notion of theater in the Middle Ages and Humanism. At the end of the course the student must be able to know the history of Latin Literature from the sixth to the fifteenth century and the evolution of historiographical and theatrical forms in the transition from classical antiquity to the Middle Ages and Humanism; to make connections between authors, works and literary genres; to apply the philological methodologies to the individual texts; to argue the subject treated using the specific lexicon of the discipline in a conscious and appropriate way. PREREQUISITES In order to tackle the contents of the discipline without difficulty it would be advisable for the students to have at least a basic knowledge of Latin language and literature. TEACHING METHODS The course is divided into lectures by the teacher, which can be accompanied by other lectures given by teachers from other universities, who will present the results of their research on specific topics. During the course the students will also be invited to present short class reports on topics agreed upon with the teacher. Attendance (highly recommended), active participation in classes and individual study will enable the students to achieve the objectives. In particular, the genre of historiography will be examined and the features of the history of medieval and humanistic Latin theater will be illustrated to the students. Therefore, anthological readings, analyses and comments on historiographical and theatrical texts of the Middle Ages and Humanism will be foreseen. In particular, the genre of historiography will be examined and the features of the history of medieval and humanistic Latin theater will be illustrated to the students. Therefore, anthological readings, analyses and comments on historiographical and theatrical texts of the Middle Ages and Humanism will be foreseen. In addition, an in-depth analysis of a single author, of a single work or a critical reading concerning the program is envisaged. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam will verify the actual acquisition by the student of what has been learned both on the basis of individual study, and listening to the topics covered during the lessons in the classroom. The exam evaluates the student's ability to know the history of Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature, with particular reference to the historiographical and theatrical forms in their historical-cultural development (up to 15/30); to re-elaborate the teaching contents and to make links between the topics covered (up to 10/30); to apply the methodologies acquired (historical-philological, critical-textual) and to use the specific lexicon of the discipline (up to 5/30).
