This course is held in the second semester
Basic and advanced concepts regarding the environmental chemistry, the impact, the pathways and the fate of several classes of natural or anthropogenic pollutants will be described. Some aspects of existing legislation and monitoring techniques will be also treated.
Understand the basic concepts of the biogeochemical cycles of different classes of natural compounds and pollutants and of the problems related to their control in the environment.
Knoledge of both inorganic and organic chemistry main topics.
Formal Lectures: Each lecture covers the main concepts and topics of the course content by the use of PowerPoint presentations. Appropriate references to parts of course textbooks and suggested references are provided at each lecture.
Atmosphere and atmospheric chemistry: chemical reactions in the troposphere and in the stratosphere. Role of ozone in the stratosphere. The Chapman's cycle. Atmospheric pollutants and atmospheric monitoring. Hydrosphere and water chemistry. Natural water properties. Monitoring and assessment of water quality. Waste water treatment.
