Elements of clinical and experimental endocrinology. Analytical methods for the evaluation of serum hormonal levels, principles of diagnosis of endocrinological diseases.
The course deals with the acquisition of elements of general endocrinology such as classification of hormones, their effect on target cells and methods to measure hormonal levels (hormonal assays). The course also deals with the acquisition of elements of clinical endocrinology such as the physiopathology of endocrine organs and tissues as well as diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases.
The course is articulated in classroom lessons supplemented by laboratory activities.
The course aims to teach the functions of hormones and endocrine organs as well as their anatomy and physiopathology. In detail, the course deals with subjects of general endocrinology such as the classification of hormones, mechanisms of hormonal secretion, negative and positive feedback, pulsatile patterns of hormone secretion, principles of hormonal assays. Regarding endocrine physiopathology, the course deals with the anatomy and physiopathology of all endocrine organs and tissues such as hypothalamus-pituitary axis, thyroid and parathyroid, gonads, endocrine pancreas and adrenal glands as well as with notes about the main endocrine diseases and their treatment.

Oral test
The training of students will be evaluated through an oral test with questions on the subjects of the course. During the test the ability of students to interpret and correlate different subjects will be also evaluated.
