CODE 67394 ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020 CREDITS 2 cfu anno 5 MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA 8745 (LM-41) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/24 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: SURGERY I TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the Course, the Student should be able to affront discussions on problems of clinical / surgical relevance, showing themselves autonomously capable and able to give differential diagnostic reasoning, based on observation, knowledge of epidemiological data, rational use of instrumental and laboratory investigations, as well as on the possibility of prevention for the most common diseases, with reference to content of the Course program, indicated below (Section 3). It requires the Student to have the ability to give the correct therapeutic indications, to be generally oriented on the most common urologic surgical techniques, and the "timing" of surgery and prognosis, considering the psycho-physical and social characteristics of the patient. A good knowledge is also required of issues relating to pre- and post-operative periods, with reference to the system of minor, intermediate as well as that of major urologic surgery. TEACHING METHODS - Plenary Lectures in Classroom - Training Seminars (clinical case discussions) - Educational / Professional Training (for small groups of students) on the Hospital Ward, in Outpatient Clinics, and in the Operating Room / Radiological - Instrumental Diagnostics Attendance is mandatory, with distributed hours, according to the type of activities and in relation to the Educational Credits (CFU) provided for the 5th Year - 1st Semester for the Discipline of Urology MED / 24 - Integrated Course of Surgery I: 1 CFU, (1 CFU = 25 hours) The detailed Calendar of Educational Activities is specified, each academic year, in the Student Guide published online. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Anatomy of the male and urinary tract, symptoms and signs of diseases of urological relevance, laboratory and instrumental semeiotics • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (diagnostic procedure, medical therapy, endoscopic and open surgical therapy, minimally invasive therapies) • Prostate carcinoma (diagnosis, factors leading to therapy, medical treatment, surgery, radiotherapy, complications of different treatments) • Renal parenchymal tumors (diagnosis, surgical and medical therapy) • Upper urinary tract and bladder tumors (superficial and infiltrating classification, importance of in situ carcinoma, diagnosis and therapy, urinary derivations and bladder substitutions) • Testis tumors (diagnostic and differential diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy, surveillance) • Obstructive anuria (definition, etiology, clinical aspects, hydroelectrolytic and systemic repercussions, diagnostic classification, therapeutic approach) • Urinary calculosis (diagnostic procedure, medical therapy, ESWL, endoscopic, open and laparoscopic therapy) • Urinary retention (definition, etiology, treatment) • Hydronephrosis (definition, etiology, treatment) • Infections of the urinary and genital tract (diagnostic and therapeutic path) • Urinary incontinence (definition, classification, diagnostic procedure, treatment) • Main malformations of the urinary tract and male genitalia • Urogenital traumas • Varicocele, hydrocele, torsion of the funiculus • Erectile dysfunction RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY "Manuale di Urologia e Andrologia" . Students, therefore, to pass the exam, achieving a vote of no less than 18/30, must demonstrate the knowledge and skills contained in the Educational Goals defined above (see Section 2). The following contribute, therefore, to the final mark out of thirty: - Ability to transverse and critically deal with the required arguments; - Fairness, clarity, synthesis and exhibiting fluidity; - Mastery of the subject; - Adoption of appropriate terminology.
