The course provides the theoretical knowledge and the practical expertise on the main analytical techniques for the characterization of geomaterials as well as on quantification and discussion of analytical results. The analytical techniques will be discussed considering either the potentialities and limits of application; the main legislative norms constraining the professional activities will also be provided. This represents the necessary background for research and for applied professional studies. Main topics are: 1) Sampling strategies for mineralogical and petrological studies of rocks, incoherent sediments, soils and mineralized bodies; 2) Analytical methods for rocks and minerals; 3) Analytical strategies for development of environment, applied and basic research works; 4) Collection, treatment and elaboration of analytical data; 5) Practical case studies, from field to laboratory to data acquisition and elaboration will performed by each student.
