AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the tourism phenomenon through the geographic analysis of the territories seen from the perspective of the transformation carried out over time by the tourist activities, in search of invariants that may suggest appropriate classifications and evolutionary paradigms. Special attention will be given to the analysis of recent tourism demand in relation to changes in the behavior and tastes of the tourist and the ways of enjoying the holiday.

Lectures, seminar activities, case analysis 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The main topics are:

  • The numbers of tourism: arrivals, overnights, flows and reception areas;
  • Tourism and economic geography: supply and demand; circulation and transport; employment;
  • Tourism and political geography: geopolitical situations; tourist policies; systems and districts;
  • Types of tourism: motivations; naturalistic, ethnological, rural tourism, etc.
  • Tourism and the environment: space visited and space consumed; the measurement of impacts;
  • Tourism and image: neotoponyms, literature, mass media, cartography, etc.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Assessment methods:  Written test with open questions with a short answer, useful for verifying both the level of learning of the course contents and the ability to express through the use of adequate vocabulary and terminology.

Exam repetition: If the student does not pass the exam or report below his expectations, he can repeat the exam only one more time in the same session (summer, winter).
