The course introduces students to critical analysis of decision-making problems in tourism and the use of methods of decision theory and operational research. Particular attention is paid to revenue management techniques and models to solve real applications.
The course aims to provide the students with the most significant notions and tools of operational research applied to business and tourism systems, with particular reference to the solution of revenue management problems.

At the end of the course students will :
know the typical terminology of decision theory and operational research; be able to develop choice/optimization models to solve real problems related to the management of tourist services be able to use the spreadsheet and the solver of Excel
matrices and linear functions
Traditional lectures in Italian are integrated with individual/group works and lessons involving the use of PCs (spreadsheet Excel).
Some lessons will be dedicated to the presentation and discussion of case studies.
During the course homeworks will be assigned via AulaWeb.
Analysis of some problems of tourist management: assignment, scheduling, transportation problems; human resource management, forecasting, pricing and revenue management.
Methods: decision theory, optimization.
Spreadsheet Excel will be used for solving the analysed problems.

Written examination and presentation of case studies
The written test is aimed at assessing the degree of knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in class.
The ability to apply knowledge (solving and communication skills) will be assessed through the presentation / discussion of the exercises or projects.
