CODE 64765 ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 2 CHIMICA INDUSTRIALE 9020 (LM-71) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR CHIM/04 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW In this teaching the concepts for the understanding of the fundamental processes of the industrial chemistry and their implications in the productive processes, are provided. The oil industry, coal and its derivatives and some organic syntheses of particular industrial interest are discussed in detail. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching aims at deeply investigating some fundamental industrial chemicals processes, in order to optimize the economicity and the yield of raw materials from the environmental point of view, etc., using the principles of thermodynamics, kinetics and the plant engineering, previously acquired. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching is focused to develop the student's ability to correlate the theoretical notions of the industrial processes to the real practice in order to optimize the processes themselves. At the end of the teaching the student will be able to: · Use the principles of thermodynamics, kinetics and plant engineering, previously acquired, in the study of a production process ·Identify and critically discuss the accessible information to maximize the yields of the process. TEACHING METHODS The teaching consists of traditional lectures for a total of 40 hours. Lesson notes are uploaded to the corresponding AulaWeb page simultaneously with their presentation in the classroom. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The teaching will be developed by examining the petroleum industry and its principle working processes, the carbon industry and its subsidiary industries and some relevant organic syntheses of industrial interest (i.e. formaldehyde, styrene, phenol, anhydrides of industrial interest, terephthalic acid, caprolactam etc.). Aspects of thermodynamics, kinetics, catalytic, technological processes and environmental impact will be discussed. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY C. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD MAILA CASTELLANO Ricevimento: always, by appointment Exam Board MAILA CASTELLANO (President) DAVIDE COMORETTO (President) ANTONIO COMITE PAOLA LOVA SILVIA VICINI LESSONS LESSONS START see on the course website Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Oral examination conducted by two teachers for a duration of at least 30 minutes. During the calendar year, seven exam dates are set up in the time intervals scheduled by the Manifesto degli Studi. The oral examination usually consists of three parts, which of them are evaluated as specified below: - in the first part, the student has to face a problem with petrochemical industry; the first part is awarded a maximum rating of 10/30; - in the second part, the student has to face a problem with coal industry; the second part is awarded a maximum rating of 10/30; - in the third part, the student is asked to describe one industrial syntheses; the third part is awarded a maximum rating of 10/30. ASSESSMENT METHODS Goal of the assessment is to verify the achievement of the learning outcomes. When these are not met, the student is invited to extend the study. Moreover, the oral exam will avail to verify the achievement of the appropriate level of knowledge of the topics transmitted during the lectures and the capability to use a correct terminology. To ensure uniformity between the examination topics and those actually carried out during the course, is present into the AulaWeb page a detailed program, so that students themselves can verify adherence.
