OVERVIEW

The course aims to explore how reading - and more generally storytelling - can be an effective tool not only for education, but mainly an endless source of pleasure: the pleasure to open imaginary windows for endless trips, the pleasure to make unexpected encounters, the pleasure to gain extraordinary knowledges, the pleasure to sail, as Salman Rushdie would say, "in the Sea of Stories."

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Providing methodological tools and educational and cultural landmarks to transform the obligation of reading in "pleasure of reading."

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

- Reflection on ways of educating children to the written page, illustration and the many forms of contemporary storytelling ;
- solicitation of a critical approach through the "free reading" as a formative moment other than the "school reading";
- reflections on "Grammar of Fantasy".

TEACHING METHODS

The lectures involving the use of multimedia devices. Approximately the 5 or 10% of sources used in lectures will be in English.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Paradoxically, our contemporary world, in which media (books, TV shows, comics, movies, cartoons, video games, apps) co-exist and superimpose each other, does not seem to pay attention to storytelling.  Is taken for granted that the storytelling is unnecessary, superfluous. The book is considered a agonizing medium, victim of a widespread disinterest; children's books, in particular, continue to be regarded as "Children of a Lesser God".  The course aims to explore how reading - and more generally storytelling - can be not only an effective methodological tool for education, but mainly an endless source of pleasure: the pleasure to open imaginary windows for endless trips, the pleasure to make unexpected encounters, the pleasure to gain extraordinary knowledges, the pleasure to sail, as Salman Rushdie would say, "in the Sea of Stories."
