The course aims to establish a dialogue between general history and the territory. Particular attention will be paid to cultural resources and local historical sources, intended as useful tools for the development of cultural itineraries and events to be included in the territorial tourism offer. Among the sources will be used in particular audiovisual documents and testimonies of popular writing (also thanks to the workshop activity of the Ligurian Archive of Popular Writing at the DISFOR), from which emerges the "memory" of the territory.
The aim of the course is to provide students with the fundamental coordinates of contemporary history, especially of the twentieth century, deepening specific issues of Italian history useful for understanding local dynamics and culture through the use of specific sources, in order to bring out problems and potential of the territory. At the end of the course the student must:
- know the main historical events periodizing in contemporary history at a general and local level
- know the main historiographical theories
- know the main methods of historical research
- know and know how to use the historical sources present in the territory
- being able to critically analyze contemporary historical events and decline them at the local level
The teaching consists of lectures for a total of 36 hours. The use of multimedia supports is foreseen. Specific lessons with a workshop approach will be devoted to historical sources and the culture of the territory.
The course aims to provide tools for the knowledge and understanding of general historical phenomena and local effects and ability to apply the knowledge acquired in the context of the enhancement and promotion of tourism and culture of the territory.

Written test / elaboration of a project of cultural historical enhancement. The exam is exclusively oral for non-attending students (ie for those who have not attended at least 75% of the lessons).
Four dates: from May 2020 to July 2020
One date: in September 2020
Further details and clarifications on how to prepare for the exam will be provided during the lessons. The written paper (for attending students) and the oral interview (for non-attending students) have the task of verifying that the student has acquired the basic notions on general and local history, especially between the 19th and the 20th century, and the possibilities of tourist enhancement offered by the history of the territory.
