The main objective is to provide basic concepts and information on travel medicine for all those who work in the field of tourism and territorial promotion. It is fundamental to understand that the potential danger of contracting infectious diseases is associated both with personal behaviors and with the geographical area visited. It is also important to provide knowledge on non-infectious diseases that may occur during travel and on their associated risk factors. The aim of the course is to develop the knowledge and skills needed in order to avoid the most common risks and diseases that may be encountered during national and international travel. Acquisition of the basic knowledge of the diseases that afflict travelers. Raising awareness of the importance of knowing and implementing the various strategies for the prevention of both infectious and non-infectious diseases. Acquisition of the basic norms of safety for travelers.
Frontal lessons and group activities to develop the subjects dealt with during the class lessons.
The concept of health and travel medicine. Elements of epidemiology. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Evolution of international travel. Epidemiology and prevention of the principal infectious diseases, with particular reference to the different risk areas. Knowledge on non-infectious diseases that may occur during travel and on their associated risk factors. Basic norms of safety for travelers. Travel Medicine Centres.

Second semester.
Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct aswer) and of one “open” question. In the open question will be evaluated: the level of knowledge, the degree of detail and the use of appropriate language. Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination.
The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives.
