OVERVIEW

Microeconomics is the study of individuals, households and firms' behavior in decision making and allocation of resources. It generally applies to markets of goods and services and deals with individual and economic issues.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Scope, field and methods of economics. Consumer behaviour, individual and market demand. Producer behaviour, individual and market supply. The equilibrium price and market structures. Market failure and government intervention.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Microeconomics course introduces the main issues of individual economic behaviour with a reference to consumers and firms, and the analysis of competitive and non-competitive markets. Presenting and discussing the different topics, through exercises and classes and through the discussion of actual cases, the student is able to understand many problems of the functioning of the markets. The course provides also the background to understand the aggregate models of the whole economy.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Students are evaluated according to a written and oral exam . 
It is possible to take the exam in three partiaa exams, a partial exam and a final exam. In this case, it is necessary to pass both exams (at least 15/30). 
Alternatively, students can choose to take a general exam at the end of the course.


 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam aims to evaluate the student's preparation and his critical skills.
