OVERVIEW

The course provides an introduction to knowledge and understanding of the main public health issues with a view to the prevention of monofactorial and multifactorial diseases and the study of health determinants

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides information on the methods and techniques used in prevention by analyzing the factors suitable for the protection of health.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Attendance and active participation in the proposed training activities and individual study will allow the student to acquire:

 

- Knowledge of risk factors of both infectious and chronic-degenerative diseases

- Knowledge of the main health determinants

- Knowledge of the main modes of transmission of infectious diseases.

- Knowledge of the main prophylaxis measures.

- Knowledge of the main national and Community environmental legislation.

TEACHING METHODS

For the first semester, the lessons will be carried out in presence if possible, guaranteeing the enjoyment of the lessons also at a distance, through video recording, synchronous or asynchronous. The laboratory exercises will be organized if possible in presence, possibly with several shifts.

All activities in presence will be carried out in compliance with the capacity limits of the classrooms/laboratories and the distance between them, as provided for by the regulations in force following the COVID19 emergency.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Health and factors characterising the transition from health to disease.

Monofactorial, multifactorial, emerging and re-emerging diseases.

Concepts of demography and epidemiology: Lexis curve, age pyramid, birth rates, mortality, transversal and prospective studies.

Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.

Etiological agents of infectious diseases. Infection and disease. Host and parasite relationships. Source of infections: sources reservoirs and spread of infections.  Infection occurrence and development: incubation, pathways, parasitic, parasitic and external factors. Immunity Rates of occurrence of infectious diseases in the community: chain of infection
Direct and indirect, non-specific and specific prophylaxis
Active and passive immunoprophylaxis.

Sterilization and disinfection.
