OVERVIEW

The course illustrates the developments of technical-scientific culture between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The contents concern the cultural and socio-political history of the eighteenth century, from the crisis of European conscience at the beginning of the century to the French Revolution, the Enlightenment codification of the scientific revolution and the developments of the eighteenth-century sciences and technology. The goal is to provide adequate preparation about the history of the Enlightenment, using the growth of technical and scientific knowledge as a privileged observatory of analysis.

PREREQUISITES

A good knowledge of modern history and the history of philosophy.

TEACHING METHODS

The lessons are frontal. If the covid-related emergency persists, teaching students will be required to email the teacher and receive instructions on how to attend the lessons.The exam is always and only oral. Attendance is recommended: exercises and seminars are planned. Those who do not attend the exam will bring two texts for 6 CFU and three for 9 CFU, according to the program of readings indicated below, without additional additional texts for those who could not attend. EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is always oral. The topics of the course are discussed, verifying the preparation of the most specific contexts and themes that the candidate has prepared on the books he has studied.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

During the exam interview, the candidate's preparation and knowledge are verified. In particular, the aim is to ensure that the student has adequately deepened the main historical links related to the development of modern technical and scientific culture in the context of Baroque and Enlightenment Europe.
