Through the direct reading of the texts will be illustrated methods of textual criticism and will be dealt, with particular attention, those literary genres that are of greater interest for students of the degree in Historical Sciences, such as historiography and theatrical forms. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to deepen the knowledge of Latin Literature from late antiquity to the fifteenth century, to address the analysis of historical and theatrical texts and humanities, as well as illustrate the methods of transmission of texts and the tools of philological methodologies of the discipline. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to provide students with an in-depth study, with specific readings, of the historiographical genre and to present the cultural and literary development of the notion of theater in the Middle Ages and Humanism. At the end of the course the student must be able to know the history of Latin Literature from the VIth to the XVth century and the evolution of historiographical and theatrical forms in the transition from classical antiquity to the Middle Ages and Humanism; to make connections between authors, works and literary genres; to apply the philological methodologies to the individual texts; to argue the subject treated using the specific lexicon of the discipline in a conscious and appropriate way. PREREQUISITES In order to tackle the contents of the discipline without difficulty it would be advisable for the students to have at least a basic knowledge of Latin language and literature. TEACHING METHODS The course includes lectures held by the teacher. During the course, external experts could be invited to hold lessons on specific topics. Students will also be called to present short class reports on topics agreed upon with the teacher. Regular attendance, active participation in the lessons and individual study will allow to achieve the set objectives. If the teaching of the degree course is held at a distance, this teaching will take place on the Teams platform. ASSESSMENT METHODS During the exam, it will be verified the actual acquisition by the student of what has been learned both on the base of individual study, and throught listening to the topics covered during the lessons in the classroom. The evaluation of learning aims to test the knowledge and skills related to the specific field of study. The exam evaluates the student's ability to know the history of Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature and its historical-cultural evolution from the VIth to the XVth Century, with particular reference to historiographical and theatrical forms in their historical-cultural development (up to 15/30) ; the ability to re-elaborate the teaching contents and to make links between the topics covered (up to 10/30); the competence to apply the methodologies acquired (historical-philological, critical-textual) and to use the specific lexicon of the discipline (up to 5/30).
